In preparation for our trip to Italy for Caroline and Stephen’s wedding, we’ve been jumping through bureaucratic hoops to get a passport for Rory. One step was getting this passport photo. To be acceptable to the authorities, he had to be facing forward with his eyes open. Let’s just say it took three separate photo sessions (interspersed with crying and intense soothing efforts) to come up with this. No wonder I’m pleased.

Our boy’s vocabulary, and the resulting ability to string together song lyrics, have been coming along rather nicely. Here, his father’s influence is clearly evident.
Besides displaying an ever-expanding vocabulary (both signed and spoken), Callum has recently taken a serious interest in accessorising. As in the photo here, he has begun wearing a wide variety of hats (including plastic bowls, but we don’t let him out like that in public). He also has some very fashionable sunglasses, that he can now don sans help from mommy.
But probably his favorite pursuit is wearing big people’s shoes. He regularly clomps around the house (a few steps at a time, anyway) with my shoes dangling off his feet. The best example was when we went to a party recently at a house where everyone removed their shoes upon entering. Callum picked through the row of shoes and found quite a handsome pair of men’s dress shoes. He picked them up, brought them over to me, and put them on, holding my hand as he gingerly slipped his small foot into the relatively huge opening.
I keep thinking about the clothes and shoes he’s wearing these days, and the days when the hand-me-downs seemed to be gigantic. Now he’s surprising me by how many he fits into. Will “big boy” underwear be next?
It’s been forever since we’ve posted here — busy busy busy — so I felt obligated to at least update with a photo. This was taken on New Year’s Day in the a.m.
