Mommy and Callum

We have been lucky to have visitors from Scotland the last couple of weeks, and we’ve spent the last few days at Stinson Beach. Here’s Callum about to hop on his boogieboard after finishing up a sand castle building session.
Haven’t blogged here in many days so we must give you a Callum update. Here’s the scoop.
* Callum has become quite the bookworm, much to the joy of his mother. He grabs books, walks over to the closest parent, holds up the book, and grunts. “Read this to me,” he says in prehistoric language. Honestly, we think this is the start of spoken language, because he often chooses books where he can learn the names of things.
* His sign language vocabulary is expanding, slowly. He still says “milk” — this was not a fluke, unlike the “cat” thing. And now he also says “dog” and seems to be really interested in learning more.
* He is walking like a pro and climbing lots, too. He’s becoming a master of his “kangaroo climber,” which his grandpa got him for his birthday.
I think that’ll do it for the Callum update. As for the rest of the family, Pamela is settling into her new job and Michael is in San Francisco at the moment. We are looking forward to welcoming Ronnie and his family for a visit in October!
Callum had a period this morning when he was getting up and walking a few steps, falling, then doing it all again. I only got a few on video before he became discouraged.
Well, the boy’s hair had started to get kind of matted on the sides, as the ends started to get awfully close to his face (you know, where the food gets slathered). So, on impulse, I grabbed a pair of scissors this evening and made two main cuts, one on each side of his head. The left side (my left) turned out OK, if I say so myself, but the right… well, I still have a lot to learn about haircutting. For next time, I’ll just have to pull out the bowl.
Pics from the big boy’s first birthday are online now here.
Our friends Madalyn and Brian from Texas were in town a couple of weeks ago, so we took the opportunity to visit some NorCal sites like Muir Woods (pictured) and Sonoma County wine country. Let this be a lesson to all of you considering visiting. We’ll show you an awesome time in some beautiful country (and possibly get you drunk). ![]()
P.S. This picture was taken by Madalyn.
We are just back from Scotland where Callum had a chance to socialize with family and friends (like these handsome twins here). Pics available on Flickr.
Sometimes it just comes over you all of a sudden…
