A divine confluence of events — the Harrison Street exit being closed for Bay Bridge construction, the joys of being able to get the carpool lane (thanks to Callum making 3 in the car), and the exact time of year we find ourselves in — has been making for some beautiful drives into the city. Rita Update

All of my Houston-area-based family members seem to be relatively unscathed after Rita’s passing, but my Dad’s place — ironically the location where my brother and his family decamped to, to escape the storm — is still without electricity. As Rita makes her inexorable journey toward the Texas coast, a number of members of my Houston-based family are fleeing.
