My colleague and new father Zach posted a great entry today on gardening and parenthood. I expect with the new house, we’ll soon be finding out a whole lot more about both of those subjects. … [Read more...] about Gardening & Parenthood
We Ordered a Crib
Yes, the little creature will have a place to sleep upon his arrival. We placed an order down at Darla’s Baby Boutique, and it should be arriving within the next few weeks. I took a couple of pics in the store to show to my dad, who helped us make the purchase. Thought as long as I had pictures, I might as well share them with you.And for those of you who come and visit, you might be sleeping in … [Read more...] about We Ordered a Crib
House Closing Fast Approaching
I think my last house-related entry was pretty negative so I’d better update. It turns out we ARE getting the house! (A call from Michael’s brother, Ian, this morning reminded me that we haven’t really spread the news that widely.)The sellers came back to us with a reasonable offer with regard to repairs. The price will be the same, but, at the closing, we’ll get checks written out to the repair … [Read more...] about House Closing Fast Approaching

Trip to Houston
We are home today after a whirlwind weekend trip to Houston for a baby shower. I don’t think there’s such a tradition in Scotland…or maybe it happens AFTER the baby comes. Anyway, here it’s very common — for the first baby in the family — … [Read more...] about Trip to Houston

Health update
My blood pressure is better today, so all’s well. I will have to begin regular monitoring (non-stress tests and ultrasounds) which might be a bit of a pain. But it’s no big deal in the grand scheme of things. … [Read more...] about Health update
The Pregnancy Chronicles, Week 30
Well, I should have known all the “excitement” with the house situation, coupled with my work life (a big conference last week), would take a toll. At yesterday’s visit to the OB/GYN, they found I had elevated blood pressure. Oh, boy. It’s a potentially very serious problem, but right now the pressure is just borderline (I think 118/86). So now I have my health and the baby’s health to worry … [Read more...] about The Pregnancy Chronicles, Week 30
House Update
Things are really not looking good regarding our negotiating repairs for this house. There are a frightening amount of things that need to be fixed, and they’re pretty important things, too. (And expensive!) Initial indications are that the seller isn’t that inclined to fix them, so we could have to back out. Alas. There are other fish in the sea, I suppose. We should find out something more … [Read more...] about House Update
