Here’s a close-up of the baby’s face in utero — taken just yesterday when I went for my regular twice-weekly check-up. If you look closely you can see the big eyes and nose and a little arm. Amazing to think that he’s pretty much all developed in there, except for his lungs. Only 2 more weeks before he’ll be considered full-term.
We’re very excited but not ready. It’s just one of those challenges you probably can’t prepare yourself for, so we’ll probably never be ready until I’m so uncomfortable I can’t stand it anymore.
Yesterday at the hospital, the woman getting tested next to me had to be admitted and delivered right then and there. I asked the nurse how often she gets to break the news to people, and asked her how people react. She said sometimes people are happy and relieved, but mostly they’re shocked and sometimes they burst into tears. They come in pepared for routine testing, and end up being told they’re having a baby… immediately. She said it was always a good idea, late in the pregnancy, to pack a bag before coming in for testing. Hmm…
