Callum’s Cuteness

January 3, 2006 by Pamela

Interesting story in the NYTimes about “cuteness” and its biological underpinnings. We found out last weekend that Callum was born on the same day as the panda cub (Tai Shan) mentioned in this piece. Callum was ahead in growth rate for a while, but the panda has now overtaken him. At last measurement, Callum was a little over 17 lbs, while Tai Shan has hit 25. … [Read more...] about Callum’s Cuteness

Christmas Eve, Home in California

December 24, 2005 by Pamela

Well, we didn’t get to go to Scotland, but we’re making the best of it. We’ve spent Christmas Eve  "decking the halls" — putting up lights, lighting candles, lighting a fire in the hearth, playing Christmas music and generally making merry.  Now we are sitting down to watch "It’s a Wonderful Life" and sip Baileys on ice.  Then, of course we retire to await a visit from Santa. Better … [Read more...] about Christmas Eve, Home in California

Eating Begins in Earnest

December 18, 2005 by Pamela

You may notice that the parents got smarter between Video 1 and 2 and actually put a bib on Callum. We also figured out that we need to hold his hands so he doesn’t grab the spoon and the food. You can tell we are beginners, too. He was very very enthusiastic for his first solid meal — rice cereal mixed with breast milk — but even so most of it went on his face and bib. Still, it was wonderful to … [Read more...] about Eating Begins in Earnest

December 18, 2005 by Pamela

A couple of weeks past his fifth month birthday, we determined Callum was ready for solids. Well… actually we decided he was ready for the really runny practically-milk concoctions that are recomended for beginning eaters. So…we hit Target to buy a high chair, bowls, rice cereal, etc. and we finally got it all together and ready Saturday. Here’s our video of the first bite/sucks (Video 2 has more … [Read more...] about Callum Eats Rice Cereal

Immigration Update #??

December 3, 2005 by Pamela

As 2006 comes hurtling towards us, our on going saga (or should I say my on going saga) continues to drag on. As this Scotsman and his American family pulled into the drive on a ‘thank crunchie it’s Friday’  here comes the weekend sort of mood, the beginning of the weekend just got better. The letter from the U.S.Citizen and Immigration Services that we had been waiting for since our … [Read more...] about Immigration Update #??

Callum sleeps

November 22, 2005 by Pamela

Callum sleeps Originally uploaded by Pamela PC. Just another pic of our boy. He’s actually quite pink-cheeked here, fighting off a cold. Looks like just as he’s getting over it, his parents are both succumbing. … [Read more...] about Callum sleeps

Immigration Update

November 19, 2005 by Pamela

For those of you hanging on with bated breath after our last post on the subject, let me offer an update on the immigration situation. We went on Monday, November 7 to interview at the San Francisco office of the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services (formerly INS). We waited nervously in the waiting room, wondering whether they’d split us up and ask us intimate questions to make sure we … [Read more...] about Immigration Update
